If you are looking for a place with beautiful beaches, great service, incredible snorkeling, and somewhere to completely unwind, try Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort in St. Lucia.
I have had the pleasure of visiting this resort three times, all over President’s Day weekends, twice with just couples, once with couples and children.
It doesn’t get any better than the view at Sugar Beach. Perched in between two mountains named the Pitons (also the name of the local beer) lies the perfect spot for your beach chair.
I admit I enjoy a nice tropical vacation and because of that, I have become somewhat of a connoisseur of beach chairs. Sugar Beach has the best.
The chairs are spacious, providing plenty of room for your magazines, books, sunscreen and beach toys. The towel is more sheet than towel and covers the chair perfectly so you don’t have to worry about it falling off, the umbrella is large and provides a lot of shade, and the chairs themselves are spaced apart so that you aren’t too close to your neighbor.
Other things to love about Sugar Beach are the rooms (more like small apartments, many with their own pool), breakfast on the veranda, snorkeling on the reef that is located alongside the property, the spa housed in a treehouse, the adorable “Tuk Tuks” that transport you around the property, the kids club, the restaurant on the beach, among others.
Lastly, I would strongly recommend chartering a boat from one of the guides at the hotel while you are there. It is a great way to see the island and the other resorts, snorkel, and just nice to be on the water.
Sugar Beach is very spread out along the mountain and therefore difficult to walk anywhere, but that is part of the resort’s charm. I would also recommend venturing out to several of the restaurants near the hotel. I haven’t been there in a few years so I think they must have added a lot since I was last there. Would love to go back soon – it is absolutely breathtaking.
