The day my friends and I were having lunch at Coral Sands in Harbour Island last summer, they were literally closing all the doors for renovations as we were leaving the restaurant. This was apparently the beginning of their second phase of renovations but they’ve recently fully re-opened in all their pink, seashell and mermaid glory.
While we were not staying at the hotel (rented this Airbnb instead with our large group), it was great for lunch and we spent lots of time walking around the property ooh-ing and aah-ing at all the incredible design details featuring mermaids, roosters, coral, shells (apparently there are 7000 + in the bar & restaurant alone), perfectly mismatched picture frames, and so much pink, pink, pink. There is even a mermaid in the bottom of the pool! I was in heaven.
I would love to go back to Harbour Island and I think for the next trip I would split my time between The Dunmore (best oceanside lunch ever) and Coral Sands. The Mermaid Bar alone would be reason enough to stay there. There is also a cute boutique on the property, tennis courts (must see image below), and of course the gorgeous beach.
We also loved shopping at A and A Hidden Treasures, a mother daughter craft shop, for straw bags. See the fish shaped versions below we bought for our group in honor of our BIG birthdays last summer. Coral Sands Inn & Cottages on Harbour Island, Bahamas is being renovated by its new owners, real estate and hospitality company AJ Capital Partners (AJ).

The multiphase restoration—led by AJ’s internal team—recently completed renovations across the property’s 41 accommodations, including its marquee sea cottages and stand-alone beachside residences.
The retreat also introduced a new open-air fitness facility with pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts; two new dining concepts; refreshed public spaces; and a gift shop.
