Girls Weekend in the Bahamas: Roundup of Brands, Books, Influencers & More
I recently went on a girls’ weekend with dear friends to a really cool spot in the Bahamas called Albany Resort, located in Nassau.
Our house was right on the beach, which was amazing – we swam, ate, drank, and talked (a lot). A little dancing thrown in there as well. The Albany is great because you have a choice of beach or pool (I am Team Beach for sure), there was a great gym, spa, breakfast/coffee spot, and the meals were incredible. It is also easy to get to (approx 2 hours from DC) and easy to get in and out of – the Bahamian airport is very efficient.
As with all girls weekends (I am sure you can relate), I picked up a great list of book recommendations, Instagram feed and influencer suggestions, new clothing brands to try, etc. from my group of friends.
Here’s the list:
Faithfull the Brand has the best dresses, tops, bottoms, swimwear and accessories – all for under $200
My friend wore these cute Pajar Canada Geda sneakers with her jeans and t-shirt on the airplane & looked so chic. I love the boho/preppy combo. Do you follow Lauren Santo Domingo (@thelsd) on Instagram? She has the best feed – co-founder and Chief Brand Officer at Moda Operandi, Santo Domingo splits her time between Paris, New York and other glamorous places and you can experience it all vicariously through her Instastories.
Another great Instagram account for you is called The Modern Proper. Holly Erickson and Natalie Mortimer are two friends that love to cook, entertain and travel. Their recipes are great – some healthy, some not but all delicious and there are lots of categories to choose from. I love their Instastories too – Natalie (I think?? They look a lot alike) recently went on a trip to Paris and documented her journey — I loved it. A picture from one of her stories is above.
Lots of avid readers in my group and here are their book recommendations: If you like family dramas and literary awards are important to you, click here for “Pachinko”. Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is a memoir written by Lori Gottlieb, a “celebrated psychotherapist”, about her experiences with her patients and being a patient herself after going through a break-up. In addition to my friend group, it has been recommended by every book list under the sun including The Washington Post, Oprah, NPR, and many others.
Nonfiction lovers: For financial fraud and corruption thrillers that happen to be true, Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World. For a complicated, fascinating & compelling true story, take my friend’s advice and read Jessica Simpson’s Open Book: A Memoir. I was a skeptic on this one when it was released several months ago but I am now convinced that it will be worth my time to read, if only to get all the details on her neverending breakup/makeup cycle with John Mayer.
Love sparkling water? Hate lots of cans and bottles in your pantry and fridge? My friend turned me on to this great sparkling water appliance from a Swedish company called Aarke, from Williams Sonoma
Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates – interesting documentary on the life of Bill Gates and what he has in store for the future. Also a crowd pleaser if you are looking for something to watch with different age groups and interests.
Only for those who can handle subtitles: This is an amazing Norwegian thriller, Outlier, about a serial killer, a mysterious small town and family secrets.
