One of my guilty pleasures is to look at vacation rental homes online. My favorites are of course VRBO (which I guess now is pronounced “Vur-bo” rather than V.R.B.O.?), Airbnb, One Fine Stay, Oliver’s Travels, Tuscany Now & More, and Jamaica Villas but occasionally I stumble upon smaller, more niche rental companies such as this one, called On The Water in Maine.
I found this lovely home called “Maitri House” near the town of Camden, Maine on the Megunticook Lake on their site. It isn’t glamorous or over the top; it is just a perfect looking house in a perfect looking spot on a lake in Maine. Full disclosure, being from Alabama, I know nothing about Maine but am fascinated by how beautiful, relaxing and charming it seems to be. I hope I get a chance to visit one day, preferably in this house.
From the description on the website: “Outside is a sprawling deck, a fire pit, stairs leading to the large dock, and great access to Megunticook Lake. Because this house is located in a private cove, boats are not speeding by, and loons, herons, and other wildlife come to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Swimming and fishing are great off the over-sized dock and the screened porch is a perfect retreat in the evening.”
Doesn’t that sound amazing?
Also in keeping with the Maine theme, a few interesting and surprising finds for your summer from L.L. Bean are below. My favorite is a jigsaw puzzle called the “My Hometown Map Puzzle”. I look forward to ordering one for the 35160 area code that I know and love.
Lastly, a Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Best Book of the Year by numerous publications and Emmy award winning HBO series starring Frances McDormand and Bill Murray about a retired schoolteacher in Maine, Olive Kitteridge should be on your list of books to read and shows to watch. The author, Elizabeth Strout, has based several of her novels in Maine where she was raised and now lives. You can find all of her novels here.
