Impeccable Taste: A Tale of Two Dream Houses + A New Loeffler Randall Collaboration

It’s been a busy year and an even busier June and although things are starting to slow down I haven’t done much traveling lately. (Not to worry I will be making up for it in July!). So for now, I am satisfying my wanderlust by reading magazines (yes I still love them) and Instagramming. (Btw, anyone know how to get the Bezos wedding out of their feed? Asking for a friend.)

So for your weekend escape, here’s this incredible Southhampton beach house belonging to Nashville couple Julie and Tommy Frist (brother of Bill) featured in Vogue this month. In reading about the couple and their renovation, I discovered an equally beautiful property they own in Big Sky, Montana so I thought I would share images of it as well. I love everything about both of these houses – they are impeccably decorated (by dream team Gil Schafer, David Netto, Markham Roberts and Miranda Brooks ) without being pretentious. They seem to reflect the natural style of the owner based on her jeans-and-white-t-shirt/barefoot-on-the-beach look featured in the articles.

And speaking of magazines, I recently wrote about my love of listening to Ina Garten’s memoir on a long car ride. I’ve been desperately searching for a similar book to keep me entertained in the car and on walks and can highly recommend Graydon Carter’s memoir, “When the Going Was Good.” He has led a very interesting life, grew up in Canada, made his way to New York to ultimately become the Editor-in-Chief of Vanity Fair. He gives all the juicy details about his time at the magazine (back when Vanity Fair was an essential news and celebrity gossip source). Like Ina, he narrates his own book, which makes it entertaining as well.

I am also halfway through Keith McNally’s memoir, I Regret Almost Everything. McNally is the famous New York restauranteur behind Balthazar, Pastis, Odeon, Luxembourg Café, Minetta Tavern, among others. He had a stroke a number of years ago and now has difficulty speaking, so his book is narrated by Richard E. Grant. McNally’s life story is interesting; he’s very opinionated and there’s a lot of New York history from his time building a successful restaurant brand with his first wife. It is not for the easily offended.

Incidentally, he opened (or had a hand in opening) a Pastis in Nashville this month which I am excited to check out.

If you’re like me and cannot get enough of beautiful beach houses, see my previous features on this Block Island Beach House and Veronica Beard’s Nantucket Cottage.

Other things catching my eye this month…the new collaboration between my favorite shoe brand, Loeffler Randall and my favorite swimsuit brand, Left on Friday. Run don’t walk to grab these limited edition swimsuits they designed together in red, black and leopard print.

I also grabbed this red La Ligne sundress, these light blue Mother jeans, and this amazing drug store find, tinted Strawberry flavored chapstick by Nivea.

On the show front, The Bear Season 4 debuted this week on FX and Hulu and I can’t wait to watch. If you haven’t started it yet – trust me it is the best show and you should go back and watch all three seasons. You will become very attached to all the characters and their stories.

Lastly, the famous Splendido Hotel re-opened this month following a five year renovation and redesign by hotel designer Martin Brudnizki, complete with a new bar and a Dior spa. My husband and I stayed there last summer on one of the best trips I have ever been on (and one of the best days I’ve ever had – read here.) If you’re looking for a bucket list itinerary, Lake Como Guide and Portofino posts are here and here. Hopefully I will get the chance to go back one day to admire all the renovations and that incredible view of the Bay of Portofino.

Happy Fourth of July!

The extent of my June travels…sports fields and camp drop-offs.
Strawberries & Cream at Wimbledon this week. Sadly, I will have to settle for the chapstick version.

The FX dramedy “The Bear” arrived on Hulu in the summer of 2022, and unlike a lot of award-winning TV, this series has stuck to a yearly release schedule, always arriving in late June. So get ready to start hearing “Yes, chef!” during everyday interactions…
One important thing to remember about “The Bear” is that it is ultimately a show about family: biological, cultural, accidental and otherwise. Carmy and his childhood pals all call each other “cousin,” not because they are actually related but because they grew up together.
A lot of these friends are knuckleheads by nature and are frequently used for comic relief. This is the case particularly with the bickering, bantering Fak brothers: Neil (Matty Matheson) and Teddy (Ricky Staffieri) — whom some “Bear” fans love and some find exhausting.

Sydney and Tina – One of my favorites episodes last season centered around Tina’s story; it was so moving.
Just wow.
A closer look at this incredible space.
I love these pebble stairs with natural landscaping on either side (especially the lavender).
I could handle a day of Zoom calls from this spot.
Pool and landscaping designed by Miranda Brooks.

“There were no cell phones. You could go out the door at 8 a.m. and bike to the little tennis club and have swim lessons,” Julie says. “And then the parents would barbecue in the backyard, and whoever was around would come by, and then you’d repeat it the next day.”

-Julie Frist, on her childhood summers in Southhampton
In case you are lucky enough to be visiting the Hamptons this summer, here is the Vogue Guide to the Hamptons.
The Frist home in Big Sky, Montana

Indeed, the unpretentious character of the Frist residence, at once rugged and unmistakably refined, is enhanced by the use of humble local materials: flat-textured frontier stone, repurposed corral boards, century-old hand-hewn beams, and moss rock selected from scree fields—the piles of fragmented stone at the foot of mountain cliffs.

How cozy is this space??
LR/LOF Red One Piece Suit. Also comes in black and leopard.
Left on Friday swimsuit in Jamaica.
This Leopard Dress would look great with the gold sandals.
Love this cute green and white striped bag for the beach and the plane.
Pretty gold sandals – all of her shoes are so comfortable too.
The new bar at the Splendido Hotel, Baratta Sedici. Such an incredible property.
