A Golden Anniversary in the Low Country + The Very Best Source for Invitations & Party Supplies

My parents recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the exact same place where they honeymooned back in August of 1971: Sea Island Resort on the southeastern coast of Georgia.

What a treat it was for my family to join them in celebrating this milestone anniversary in such a special location.

While we have visited Sea Island several times over the last 30 years, my cousins live nearby in Savannah, Georgia and have closely followed all the highs and lows that the resort has experienced since their heyday in the 1930s and 40s. I am told they almost closed at a few points over the years for various reasons, but it is safe to say they are now thriving and that Sea Island is here to stay.

In fact, Sea Island is the only resort in the world to achieve four Forbes Five-Stars 13 years in a row.

I don’t know about you, but on family vacations, especially with a variety of age groups and interests, I like a resort with a lot of options for activities and accommodations so that everyone can spread out.

Round Hill Resort in Jamaica is one of those places, as is Sea Island. The list of activities is endless: beach, pool, biking, spa, tennis, horseback riding, fishing, falconry (don’t ask me what that is but as I mentioned, it’s all about the options), shooting, water sports, a kids camp, and on and on. Check them all out here.

You can also choose from several accommodations – hotel, lodge, condominium or cottage. On this trip, we stayed at The Cloister which is the main part of the resort. The rooms are lovely and the beach club across the street is just a quick golf cart ride away. I have also stayed in one of the condominiums on the beach club side and those are also very nice and convenient with small children.

Two not-to-miss activities: Bingo Night and Rainbow Island Supper. You’ll see in the photos below that my son actually won the big prize at Bingo Night – it is the absolute most fun thing to do with your family. Everyone from grandparents to teenagers and younger children will enjoy.

Plus: I love parties and celebrations and this one was particularly meaningful. We added a few extra touches with the help from my creative and talented friend Weezie Boiles, founder of Weezie B. & Sally C. Designs. She created a banner, cups, drink stirrers and napkins especially for the occasion. Take a look below; links to her great products are at the end of the post. XX

I am not sure what year this is but it looks like a scene right out of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, complete with underground pool.
This vignette in the lobby spoke to me. 🙂
