Summer Suggestions ☀️

The Ultimate Summer Film: I recently re-watched the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Rear Window, starring Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart and had forgotten what a great summer movie it is. Filmed in 1954 and set in the middle of summer in hot New York City when there’s no air conditioning and all the apartment windows are open, it is the story of “a wheelchair-bound photographer who spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window, and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend.” It is such a great film & stands the test of time.

MARIA LA ROSA HANDBAGS – I found this Italian handbag company and fell in love with their clutches but they also make crossbody bags, totes, etc.

WIGGY KIT DRESSES & TOPS – I loved meeting Influencer extraordinaire Deborah Brett on vacation recently at the Mezzatorre hotel on the island of Ischia in Italy. She is an amazing baker, mom, fashionista, traveler, among other talents and one of her favorite brands is Wiggy Kit, based in London. They have beautiful dresses, tops, and skirts. See Deborah in the “Bay Dress” below.

Deborah Brett was so nice…and just as glamorous in person as she is on her Instagram feed.

NECKLACES FROM HOLA AMOR ESTUDIOS: My friend refers to this type of jewelry as “Cheap & Cheerful” – both of these cute summer necklaces are $60.

TOMATOES & ROSÉ – Summer requires both, right?

Apparently and according to Bon Appétit, 2020 is “The Year of Magical Rosé” & more specifically, California rosé. Due to the impact of the smoke from the wildfires in 2020, natural producing winemakers had to remove the skins from the grapes to be able to remove the smoke and “make rosé like their lives depended on it.”

Here’s the most interesting part: “Most winemakers didn’t just survive, they actually thrived. And they did so by taking fruit from their most prized vineyards, the ones they normally reserved for their top-tier reds, and rerouting it into a flurry of wonderful once-in-a-generation rosés.”

So if you are one of the lucky ones who can find a 2020 bottle of California rosé, pick it up immediately and serve it with this delicious tomato and feta recipe.

Tomatoes with Creamy Feta – very simple dish of tomatoes, feta, mint, yogurt, lemon etc. Yum.
  • 4 oz. feta, crumbled
  • ½ cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 3 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped mint, plus leaves for serving
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp. Diamond Crystal or ¼ tsp. Morton kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1½ lb. mixed heirloom tomatoes, sliced, quartered, or halved

CHIC WATERING CANS from Anthropologie, $32: Maybe if I had one of these it would force me to water my plants.

J. CREW SLIP DRESS: I have worn this dress all summer – on sale now for $89.50!

This color is pretty too.

BOOKS! Neither of these books about Truman Capote and his “swans” are new but I haven’t read either and am hoping to finish them before summer ends. I did get to read The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post and I highly recommend it. She was a very interesting woman, to put it mildly!

LAST SUMMER GETAWAY – Summer is coming to a close soon so my husband and I are taking one final quick trip while the kids are at camp. Thanks to Amex, airline points and off season rates, we are headed to Four Seasons Palm Beach. I’ve never stayed here but am excited to check it out. You’ll find me at the adult pool on the left.
