I went on a trip to Harbour Island this summer with my best friends from college and it was so much fun. A party of ten, we were there for five days and we did it all – cocktails and dinners at a different restaurant every night, rented a boat and captain for the day, shopped at the cute markets, drove our golf carts around the island and avoided the jaywalking roosters, went late night dancing at Daddy D’s, and spent every day lounging on the insanely beautiful beaches with water that you have to see to believe.
Of everything that we did and all the restaurants we went to, I have to say my favorite meal was not dinner, but lunch at iconic Dunmore Hotel. And the reasons for it being my favorite are two fold – one, the food was delicious but two, the setting is so perfect in every way. The dining room is really small and intimate, but the vibe is so chic. Orange and white striped chairs, seagrass rugs and wallpaper, black and white vintage photographs, perfectly styled bookshelves with rattan candle votives, shells and vintage books – all of it looking like you’re just in someone’s Bahamian villa that’s been passed down from generation to generation without a lot of fuss or change. (well done, Amanda Lindroth Design).
We actually had dinner there and it was also lovely but there was something about the lunch that was so easy and memorable.
And the food was great too – for lunch, our group split into two tables and we all ordered this Mezze platter that we could not get over, stone crabs, crispy french fries, a fish sandwich on the most incredible brioche bun with butter lettuce and tomato, fresh tuna nachos on wonton crisps, and big salads paired with lots of rosé and Sands Lights.
Harbour Island is so fun! I will definitely be back but I can’t imagine anything topping a trip with my beautiful, smart, kind, caring, funny college friends – it the best group. For all you moms with kids going off to college this year, don’t forget to remind them to find their friends – they could all be going on a trip together in 28 years, if they’re as lucky as we are.
More on what else I loved on the island soon. Sneak peak in the last photo. 🙂
