JAMAICA!

I think everyone has a favorite vacation spot — the one that they keep coming back to again and again. I am forever in search of a new favorite and typically don’t like repeat vacations — the thinking being I am missing an opportunity to experience something new.

For me, there has been one exception to that rule for the last nine years which is Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I cannot imagine ever tiring of it and in fact as soon as I arrive each time, I’m already trying to figure the next time I can go back.

I’ve written about Round Hill before so won’t repeat myself, but if you want to read more about the experience and the property, CLICK HERE.

What I want to feature now is the beautiful villa that I have been going to with my family for several years, Coconut Cottage. It is the perfect set-up for my blended family crew that includes two children in college, one in high school, two elementary school age, my husband and me. There’s room for grandparents and it would also be a PERFECT spot for either two families or several couples.

Coconut Cottage is made up of two separate villas connected by a walkway. Most Jamaican villas have an open air design to take advantage of the island breeze, therefore the only air conditioning is in the bedrooms. Villa One has three bedrooms: one King and two with Queen beds (both can be separated into twins for kids). Villa Two has two bedrooms: one King and the second bedroom has two Queens. Every bedroom has its own bathroom. There is also a small gym which is its own separate building.

Here are all the great things about Coconut Cottage:

  • Although the villa is not on the grounds of Round Hill, it is across the street (about a 5 minute drive door to door), but because it is not inside the gates, the rates are lower than booking directly through the resort
  • The owners of Coconut Cottage are shareholders of Round Hill so their guests have access to the beach club, spa, gym, restaurants, etc.
  • Coconut Cottage has its own pool, gym, ping pong table, and basketball court
  • Included in the cost of the house is your own chef, butler, laundress, housekeeper, and 24/7 driver

Here is a typical day at Coconut Cottage:

  • Wake up (late obviously; you’ve been out the night before having an amazing time)
  • Coffee waiting outside your bedroom door
  • Enjoy a delicious breakfast of eggs, fruit, bacon, pancakes (plain, banana or coconut), fresh orange juice and toast – or whatever you ask the Chef to make for you
  • Work out at the gym, play tennis, head to the beach club where you may sit in the sun, swim, snorkel, tube, Banana Boat
  • Back to the house for dinner prepared by your chef or head back to Round Hill to dine at the restaurant

After a week here you will feel relaxed, pampered, rejuvenated and ready to face the world again.

By the way, Jamaica Villas by Linda Smith is a great source for villas all over Jamaica — all with the same set-up of chef, butler, etc. Check them out here.

I don’t know why but I love these bookshelves. Also love the design of the ceiling.

Hang out area by the pool. My kids love to play cards or watch their Ipads here – the amazing butler spoils them with endless snacks so parents don’t have to deal with the “I’m hungry” whining.

You can have dinner here at the cottage or go down to the Round Hill restaurant or evening parties

The gym has everything you need including a treadmill, Peloton, weights and an amazing view, which helps ease the pain of working out after a night of rum punches.
