Bahama Mama: Kamalame Cay Resort

A Villa at Kamalame Cay

Mother’s Day is almost here and I think I speak for all of us when I say that what we want is to board a Covid-free plane and go to a Covid-free hotel and relax on a Covid-free beach, preferably with a margarita in hand.

Moms everywhere have worn multiple hats this past year — teacher, chef, driver, housekeeper, nurse, therapist, among others — and we all need a vacation! Things are looking up and I think international travel will be back in our sights soon.

In the meantime, here is a place to put on your Mother’s Day wishlist for a future trip filled with pampering and relaxation in the Bahamas. A Condé Nast Gold List and Travel and Leisure World’s Best recipient, Kamalame Cay is a beautiful family-owned resort I’ve been admiring and dreaming about for a long time and I hope to plan a visit soon.

Plus, a gift guide for all the well deserving Moms out there, including several from the glamorous, Bahamian Hostess-with-the-Mostess, Amanda Lindroth.

And lastly, two of my favorite British shows about Mothers: Mum and The Other One. Both are hilarious, quirky, and heartwarming.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Located just off the world’s third-largest Great Barrier Reef in the transparent waters of The Bahamas, our intimate, family-run, private island is home to just 20 individually appointed, bougainvillea-draped bungalows, cottages, beach houses, and villas. Scattered across 97 acres of flowering jungle, coconut palm groves, and deserted white sand beach, each of the cay’s oceanfront residences is utterly secluded and offers an unplugged experience that turns the focus to the beauty of the natural environment. One where days are filled with ocean swims, world-class diving, snorkeling, and fishing, rounds of tennis, bicycling the island’s white sand roads, kayaking lush mangrove tributaries, and lounging by the freshwater pool. An isolated island paradise outfitted with the only overwater spa in The Bahamas, an international wine and spirits list, the region’s finest cuisine, and an alfresco cinema, Kamalame Cay blends barefoot luxury and laidback charm with untouched tropical splendor and the ultimate in privacy.
